Help Us Reclaim the Streets – Support The Parklet Book & Design Competition

For decades, our streets have been dominated by cars. But they don’t have to be.

Since 2005, the Park(ing) Day movement has sparked a global transformation, turning parking spaces into vibrant public places. What began as a guerrilla art intervention in San Francisco has grown into a worldwide movement—reshaping how we think about streets, cities, and public space.

Now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make these changes permanent. The Parklet Book—published by Island Press—will be the first definitive guide to the movement, documenting its impact and future. Alongside it, the International Parklet Design Competition will highlight groundbreaking public space projects from around the world.

To make this happen, we need your support. Your sponsorship will:

  • Amplify real-world solutions that make streets more vibrant and inclusive.

  • Ensure this knowledge reaches city leaders, designers, and advocates worldwide.

  • Fund prizes for groundbreaking parklet and patio designs.

This is more than a book. It's a movement. It's a roadmap for reclaiming public space. Let's work together to ensure cities prioritize people, one Park(ing) space at a time.

The Park(ing) Day Network is fiscally sponsored [by ISI, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization], and all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
